The end of each filename contains a file extension ( abf, acr, acsm, afm, arc, asp, ani, amr, asc, ai, aif, art, asm, apk, au, avi, avr, avs ) which refers to the type of file. This information is used by your computer operating system to launch an appropriate program that is associated with this file.



.apk - Application package file (APK) is the file format used to distribute and install application software on Google's Android operating system. The Android SDK provides you the API libraries and developer tools necessary to build, test, and debug apps for Android. APK files are saved in a compressed .zip format and can be opened by any zip decompression tool.
    Pre-installed Android APKs are stored in the /system/app folder. The User installed APKs are stored in the /data/app folder. To manage installed applications in Android go to the Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications.
