    The 2010 census reports that Texas has a population of 25,145,561 people making it the 2nd most populous state in the USA. The state has 3 cities with large populations over at least one million people. They are Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. Houston is the largest city in the state.


    Texas has 3 of its borders defined by rivers. The Rio Grande river forms a natural border with Mexico to the south. The Red River forms a natural border with Oklahoma and Arkansas to the north and the Sabine River forms a natural border with Louisiana to the east. Texas has 15 major rivers with the Rio Grande being the largest of these rivers. Some of the other major rivers include the Pecos, the Brazos, Colorado, and Red River. The Texas Panhandle is an area of the state that consists of the northernmost 26 counties. The panhandle is a rectangular shaped area bordered by New Mexico to the west and Oklahoma to the north and east.

    The Great Plains is a large area of flat land, much of it covered in prairie and grassland, The Great Plains lies west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States and it covers parts of 10 U.S. states - Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
